THE YACHT RACE.
Press Association. —Copyright. Melbourne, Janaary 20. The second race for the Cup was over a 21 knots triangular course. The Eawhiti’s time allowance was 53secs. There was a strong north wind with a bumpy sea. The Sayonara lost 18sec. at the start, the Eawhifi having a lead. At the three miles, the Sayonara, constantly diminishing the gap, was ahead. Half a mile further on one of the Eawhiti’s spinnaker guys carried away. The boom was topped and repairs made, but it carried away almost immediately,. The Sayonara was sailing grandly before the wind, showing the benefit of the greatest ballast, and at the first gibe was well ahead. On the wind, the local boat displayed all her best quailtics, making good weather, while the Eawbiti labored. She increased the lead all the time. The Sayonara crossed the line the winner by 7min. 7sec., after deducting the time allowance.
