London, January 18. 1 Wool: Brisk sale in all _ classes prices firm. Americans operating freely for best merinos ami crossbreds. Tress Association. ■Wellington, January 18. The third of the season’s scries of wool 1 sales, opened to-day, over 10,000 bales ; being offered, a local record. Some 50 ! buyers wove present, bidding started I keenly, and nothing was allowed to pass. . The first catalogue submitted was that ot the United Tanners and Wairarapa Farmers. Prices for medium crossbreds | wore about the same as at last month’s | sales. Coarse crossbreds and shabby par- ' cels wore in some cases 3 d more. There I was <»ood competition for fine crossbred ; lines which arc well grown and clean, and prices were realised -id in advance of previous sale prices. Lamb’s wool was sold at a slight advance on previous sale rates. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile report spirited competition for good crossbreds, with prices fully up to last sales, and in some instances advances were obtained. Inferior and faulty crossbreds met with irregular competition, seedy lots being neglected and half-bred not keenly competed for, and prices wore easier. Merinos sold well, 9-ld to 10id being realised. 'The sale is proceeding.
The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Wellington, reports under date January IGth : At to-day’s sales, held earlier on account of wool sales falling on Friday, the usual day, only green skins, hides, and tallow were offered. Buyers attended in usual numbers, ami prices were equal to last sales. We quoteGsccli pelts 2s Gd to 3s 7d, lambs 2s 8d to 3s 4d. Hides, only indifferent lots forward, medium os and cow Gd to GJd, damaged 5d to 3g, calf sound to 7id, damaged Id to 5Jd. Tallow, in sacks, good mixed 23s to 26s 3d, in tins 10s to IDs 3d per cwt.
Murray, Roberts and Co. report: Offin,, to Friday being the date of the third woof sale we held our fortnightly sale of akins and hides last Wednesday, only green skins being offered. Hides were in '.rood request at late rates and skins (pelts) were also firm at last sales quotations. \\ e quote: Heavy prime ox, none offering, medium ox 6d to per lb, good cows 6d to C.M, medium cows s'd to 6 rt d, damaged and inferior hides 4d to 4fd, stags and hulls 4d to Aid, calf medium to good Gid to GSJ, calf inferior and damaged t 2 d to sd, calf badly damaged Id to 2d, sheep pelts 2s Gd to 3s Jd each.
