GOVERNOR ON TOUR.

Ghevmotjtu, January 17. His Excellency the Governor and the Hon. Geo. Eowlds arrived in town at eight o’clock last evening from lleefton, and were welcomed by Cr. Coates, Deputy-Mayor, in the absence of the Mayor owing to illness, and members of local bodies. The Hon. A. R. Guinness and Mr T. Seddon, M.H.R., were also present. Three cheers were given for the Governor and party, and the band played “ God Save the King.” The volunteers turned out, and were inspected by the Governor. The public reception will take place tomorrow evening, when a conversazione will be held in the Town Hall. To-morrow the party will be driven to Port Elizabeth, and luncheon will be provided at the State coal mine. The Hon. Mr Fowlds met a deputation of the Education Board and Hospital Trustees last ’evening on various matters.
The weather promises to be fine for to-morrow’s outing.
