Per Press Association. Waihi, January 16. Mr Deverell, who carries mails to Tauranga, had a terrible experience on returning from Tauranga yesterday. Bo was crossing a road on horseback with the mails, the road being covered to a depth of six feet by a rushing flood of water. When half-way across the horse was carried away and the mails washed out to sea. Deverell clung to a barbed wire fence and crept along it, reaching dry land in an exhausted condition with lacerated hands. .
