APITI.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Monday evening a public meeting was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall to consider the advisability of erecting a new public hall. Mr Stephens was voted to the chair. He referred to the growing demand for better hall accommodation and whilst alluding to the splendid season they were having he considered the time was neter more opportune for the settlers to give effect to their long desired aim. A committee consisting of Dr. Gregory, Messrs W. McKay, H. Osborne, H. Bennett and G. Mowat was elected to make full enquiries as to site, loan, etc., and to bring particulars before next meeting. Mr Hugh Osborne was appointed to interview the Minister of Public Works in connection with the proposed railway to Apiti, also to ascertain from the Registrar-General when a registry office for births, marriages and deaths is to be installed in Apitt. The output of butter for last month was nearly four lons more than for the corresponding period last year.
