The oidinary monthly meeting of the shore was held yesterday. Present; T' G. Wilson (chairman), Ors. HamBand, piasters, McKenzie. Dalton, Barber and Kendall. Correspondence was read — prom Treasury, drawing attention to the amendment of section 8 of the Local Bodies Act, 1901. . Prom J. 8. Hartley, Himatangi, asking Council to lease him the piece of ground on, which his blacksmith’s shop has been erected by mistake on Council's land. . From Anderson, Ltd., stating girders and plates for bridges on FeildingAwahuri road, have been sent.— Material arrived, and work will he uroceeded with immediately. ‘ prom T. W. Collins, Rongotea, asking price of disused rails and old sleepers. , . From H. Sanson, re ofter made him of £6O in connection with moving fence on roadliuo, stating that ho is prepared to take £63 11s, the actual cost.—Council agreed to pay the amount required by Mr Sanson. From C. Figgott, Moutoa, drawing Council’s attention to the dangerous state of the crossing at the river.— Approach to river has been attended to. From Department of Lands and Survey, stating that a further authority of £6O his been granted Council to complete river protection works, Ohakea Settlement. From Thomas IS ye, stating that ah eravel taken out of his pit on and after January Ist, 1007, will be 8d per yard. From several ratepayers at Himatangi, requesting the Council to raise a loan of £3OO, under the Local Bodies Loan Act of 1901, for the construction of the Koputara road ; they were willing to have their lands included in the special rating district. —Application to be made for provisional approval of £SOO. , From Stevenson and Cook, Oroua Bridge, drawing attention to defective drainage in and around the Oroua Downs Creamery.—Engineer to attend to matter. , _ , , From Department of Roads, torwarding copy of warrant authorising the Horowhenua County Council to construct a bridge and protection work Over Mauawatu river at Shannon, and apportioning the cost.—Decided that application be made for provisional approval of a loan of £2OOO, at 4 per centum per annum, for 41 years under the Local Bodies Act of 1901 for the purpose of providing the Manawatu County Council’s share of the cost of constructing a bridge over the ManaWafu river at Shannon. Stewart Biding, £3O 18s ; Eawa Eawa, £296 2s 6d ; Awahou, £35 8s 3d. Exoinbeb’s Report, Sandon Riding.—The road machine a has done first-class work on Eakariki ‘ road. About 25 chains of the Ohakea Terraco road has been widened and reformed with the road machine at a cost of 12s per chain. The-limestone has come to hand for footpaths in the Sanson township and is of a very rough and coarse nature and will require a good deal of labour spent to break it. It will bo advisable to clean out the drain on Speedy’s line this autumn, provided the settlers interested are prepared to pay a share of the cost. Mount Stewart Riding ; Men are cm- _ ployed in putting in stringers to j strengthen Bridge No. 44 on heilding- j Halcombe road. Most of the material is on the ground and the creek cleared of timber for the bridges on FeiidingAwahuri road,- and as soon as the men have completed repairs to the bridge 1 On the Halcombe road will bo ready to go straight ahead. He had inspected the sharp corner on Feiiding-Awahuri road, complained of by the Feiiding - Borough, and is satistied that it could be improved very muon by taking a chain and a half of laud from the t ratepayer on the corner to round the | 1 corner off, hut it will be found that J South-street is two chains wide and is formed close to one side of the road line. It would seem advisable for the Borough Council to reconstruct their street in the centre of the road line, and thus avoid the sharp corner. j "\Yaitohi Riding.—Messrs Stuart and f Son have completed their contract for ; supplying and delivering metal on Penney’s Line in a satisfactory manner. Eongotea Riding.—A cry little has been done. Mr Cooksley has completed Ins contracfsatisfactorily. Eawakawa Riding.—The repairing of the bridge across Sluggish Creek will be attended to during present month. Carnarvon Riding.—About 40 chains of the Eoputara road has been formed up with road machine at a cost of Ss per chain. Mr H. Thompson has not commenced his contract for Campion s line yet. He has made several promises to start, and unless he commences and proceeds straight ahead, he suggests that Council cancel the contract. Cr. Barber considers it inadvisable to build on to the roadman’s cottage at Himatangi. Hardwood timber is to hand for drain on the "Wherokino road, and a temporary bridge has been erected to keep tratile open. Resolved— That the Ranger be instructed not to impound stock from the county roads from present date to 31st June, 1907. That the channel through the Msnawatu Railway Company’s endowment shall he declared a public drain, and the Council instructs that the necessary steps be taken to get sufficient land required for the purpose of a public drain in the Downs Special Rating District. That tender* be called for a supply of 700 dog collar*. That tenders be called for about 30 chains of drain on river bank line, near Makohi bridge, tenders to be in by the 30th. A committee consisting of the chairman, Crs. McEenzie and Masters was set up to meet on 30th instant, to accept tender*, meeting to be at 11 a.ra. Rates, general, special and separate, totalling £lO 13s 7d, were written off.-
