HONOURED MUSICIANS.
Per Press Association. Wellington, January 9. The Besses o’ th’ Barn Band, which arrived from Suva to-day, wore accorded a citizens’ reception this afternoon at the Town Hall. The Premier welcomed the baud to the colony, and said he hoped their tour, in addition to affording pleasure, would be of value educationally to bandsmen. The band left for Christchurch in the evening by the Mararoa. They were played to tho wharf by the city bands, and given a cordial send-off. There was a great crowd present, probably five or six thousand. The police were quite unable to control the rush on to the wharf, the chains being broken down by the advancing crowd. The public clambered on to the wharf sheds and cranes, and wildly cheered as the steamer moved away. Chkistciiukch, January 10. The Besses o’ th’ Barn Band arrived at Lyttelton this morning, and received a hearty welcome. They mve their first performance tonight. ___
