ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Per Press Association, Dannevieke, January 8. The four-year-old daughter of John Crist severely scalded yesterday by the overturning of a pail of hot water with which her mother was scrubbing the verandah. During her mother’s momentary absence the child must have upset the water over herself, with the result that she was badly scalded on the hand, head and back, and died last night. A verdict of accidental death was returned. Haweea. January 8. Patrick McCarthy, a porter at the Hawera railway station, aged 27, was killed this morning by the engine of the mail train during operations. Terrible injunes wore inflicted, his head being reduced to pqlp and his body disembowelled, He leaves a wife and two young children. Wellington, January 8, A farm hand named Albert Edward Newdick shot himself at the Upper Hutt yesterday afternoon. Deceased was 34 years of age, and leaves a wife and four children. He came from England about 12 months ago.
