TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL.

OPENING CEREMONY ON FEB. 3rd. PRIME MINISTER TO OFFICIATE. A RED LETTER DAY. What should prove to be a red letter day in the annals of history, as far as Pukekohe js concerned, will be the opening of the Pukekohe and Disti ict Technical High School on Thursnext. February 3rd. by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, member for this district. ' We are ouiic safe in stating that never before in Pukekohe has such an event that interests the whole district taken place. At this stage it is unnecessary for us I(j traverse over events leading up to the erection of the school, but we would urge upon all interested to make a point of attending the function in order to show their appreciation of the efforts of the Government and the School Committee in having tire school erected and to make the gathering a huge success. Several Ministers of the Crown, including !Hon. C. J. Parr, Minister of Education, and Sir FredLang, member for Manakau, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, member.-; of the Education Board and of the adjacent local bodies, as well as the head teachers of the district schools, have signified their intention of beinsj present.!

We understand that the ground end building' cost about .':14,000, but that considerable more money is refill i red to be spent on the "-rounds to make the surroundings picturesque, and an example to other technical and secondary institutions. There is not the slightest doubt that the school will prove one of the most valuable assets over constructed in Franklin, and now the committee requires the support of parents of children of high school aye. 'The Fducation Board has granted four fully qualified teachers to rule the destinies of the institution. Education nowadays is absolutely essential, and with such educational facilities that are offered in Pukekohe, there should be sufficient inducement to parents to send their children to their own school. We understand that in spite of all the above facts, a number of well-known local residents intend sending their offsprings to Auckland schools. It. is now up to the Education Hoard to take steps to prohibit such children attending Auckland schools* when a school sufficient to meet their requirements is situated in their own district. If people send their ehil-

The Pukckohc school is up-to-date in every respect, and it now behoves l.he people to assist an object noli only worthy of the name of the district to winch they belong, but which will be a credit to the whole of the Dominion. The committee extends* i> cordial invitation to all adults, head teachers, boys and. girls in Standards ■), 5, and ij in Fran Mi n County to attend at the row .school at 12 noon, when lifjht luncheon will be provided free. The opening will take place at about Lot) p.m. Don't fail to attend.
