SPECIAL MEETING.
MANUUEWA TOWN BOARD. HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION. The special meeting of the above Board to deal with the hak-bohday question, was held last evening, the chairman of the Board, Mr Conn, stated that no interest seemed to be taken in the matter and the public was evidently satisfied with the present half-holiday. He moved tout tnc present Saturday half-holiday be o iserved for the forthcoming year. A, member: “The butcher says hae won t close on Saturday even if the Board makes that the closing day. The motion was seconded and carried without dissent. The Chairman said ho would like to move a protest against the action of the Government in insisting that all small shopkeepers close at six o’clock. The Board considers it nhardship on those shops not employing assistance and expresses the opinion that they should be allowed to remain open until 9 p.m. Mr. Cox seconded, and this resolution was also carried unanimously. A Member: “I think it unjust that- a chemist can sell on Sundays almost anything that a general storekeeper has in stock. You can buy a camera or 6d worth of lollies from an\ chemist almost throughout the country.” . The special meeting was then closed.
