PAPAKURA. New Offices. We understand that it is the intention of the Town Board to dispose of the present office building, and to obtain temporary premises in the Church building opposite the school on the Great South Road. Christmas Trade. Shopkeepers report having had a very busy time at Christinas; in fact they estimate an increased turnover of about 50 per cent compared with the corresponding period of 1910. FaiJen Soldiers’ Memorial. At a meeting of residents held Just before .Christmas, when about 50 attended to discuss and decide on a suitable memorial to perpetuate the memory of soldiers from the district who made the supremo sacrifice in the great war, it was unanimously agreed to erect a monument to take the form of a life-sized figure of a soldier, with rock basework, three concrete steps, a pedestal of about four feet, and a figure about siv feet high, making a total of about 15 feet high. A committee, consisting of the Town Board members and Messrs. Batty (sen.), E. Cole, Rev. W. C. Wood, James Walker, Finlayson, A. Willis, Coster, H. T. Markwick, W. Elliott, and C. K. Spragg, was set up, witw full authority to proceed with the work. It was resolved to erect the monument on the site of the present library and Board office buildings. The returning officer for the Papakura Town District, Mr. A. L. Cooper, gives notice in this issue .that Mr. James Beams has been elected to fill the vacancy on the Town Board, caused by the resignation of Dr. A. W. P. Brookfield.
