In conversation with a Wan:;anui Chronicle reporter, a gentleman greatly interested in the frozen meat industry gave it as his opinion that there would be an appreciable drop in the price of meat very soon. He pointed out that at the present time it cost 4 :, : t d (jer (fc. to buy meat from the fanners and 1 deliver it on the London market. This meant that if prices dropped to 5(1 per lb, the fanner vvuuld receive <4d per lb for his i}ieat. To cite a ridiculous case, lie explained that If prices fell to 4d per lb the sheep farmers would not only receive nothing for their stock but would have to refund %d per lb as well to the freezing companies.
Private cables received advise that damage by rust in the United States has been greater than was expected a couple of months ago.
