COMPREHENSIVE ROADING SCHEME.
FOR GLENBROOK, MAUKU, AND
PUNI
At November's meeting the Franklin County Council, Cr. Cult was informed that steps were being taken to take a poll of the ratepayers on a proposal to raise a loan for the vrrious main roads in the Glenbrook, Mauku and Puni districts, and the clerk and Crs. Woods, Cuff and Reid were instructed to define a special rating area and to take the necessary steps to raise a loan of £BOOO, as arranged by the previous council. In connexion with the above matter, Mr. H. E. R. L. Wily, Mauku, wrote asking if the report which appeared in the "Times" was correct, and if so, what was the exact position, whether a rating area had been defined, and what special rate it was proposed to impose ? If it was not a misreport on the part ol' the newspaper, the writer stated that it would seem to be a most Improper proceeding. The above letter came before the council on Wednesday. The chairman said there was no improper proceeding about it at all. With the little schemes there would bj overlapping, and the better way was to go in for a comprehensive scheme. They had decided long ago that if the ratepayers >youid not go in for a comprehensive scheme the council would not entertain piecemeal work. If this did not meet their requirements, he thought it would be belter to let them have mud up to the station.
