Particulars concerning the issue of holiday excursion railway tickets during the Christmas and New Year holidays are advertised in this issue.

The Railway Department advises that a train will leave Auckland for Waipa races on Saturday, December 18, at 6.20 a.m., Pukckohe 7.48 a.m., returning same day. Mr. L, B. Tapper is advertising his well-known thoroughbred Shetland pony, "Splinter," for sale. "Splinter" is a four-year-old filly, and last year's first prize .winner at the Franklin Show. The Cabinet has confirmed the sentence of death passed on Samuel Thorn, found guilty of the murder of Sydney Seymour Eyre, at Pukekawa, en August 24. The sheriff is to proceed with the arrangements for the execution. Thorn took the news of the confirmation of the sentence calmly. A further goodly list of attractions to be at the gymkhana at Pukekohe next Saturday are advertised, included among which are a tug-of-war, which will be the final heat of the contest which took place recently at St. Andrew's Flower Show; also dancing competitions. The Ponsonby Boys' Brass Band, and also the Pukekohe Orchestra will discourse sweet music. The society has arranged for the provision of flowers and greenery for the decorations. Seekers after Christmas toys will do well to pay a visit to the Novelty Depot, next Brosnahan's Pharmacy, at the corner of King and Edinburgh Streets. Here, in Clarke's Buildings, a comparatively new arrival in Pukekohe (Mr. G. T. Witt), has on display a very excellent range of toys, including dolls, prams, meccano, end a whole host of others that will appeal to girls and boys. If the young people will just r,ead to their parents what the Santa Claus (see the name in big letters) of the Novelty Depot has to say in an advertisement to-day, be sure that mothers and fathers will go along and inspect.
