MONTHLY IBEE^Jttj^VThe ordinary monthly meeting of >» he Tuakau Town Board was held on Tuesday evening, (when there were present: Messrs. Dynes Fulton (chairman), Jas. Pirrc< C. Finch, G. S. uapwood, G. Arrowsmith, W. J. fay lor, J. B. Sim and the clerk (Mr. A. H. Tapper). Tuakau Domain. In reply to the board's letter urgng that legislation be introduced lUthorising the Tuakau Domain to be ■rought within the jurisdiction of .ie Tuakau Town Board area, and un- , er the administration of the Town '.oard, the Prime Minister (Right ion. W. F. Massey) intimated that lie matter was at present receiving onsideration by the Minister of ,ands.? Mr. Massey pointed out that gislation was not required in the vent of the proposal of the Town l ;oard being given effect to at a later # i ate. letter was received.
Removal of a Dam. Mr. R. Bycroft wrote rVhtive to"* he removal of a stone dam which xisted in the creek on tho quarry eserve, and requested the board to .lake reinstatement. The chairman aid the dam was not a natural oneY s it had been plastered up with* ement to hold water. He pointed ut that it was necessary to blast way the stone for the purpose ot orming the road. The board.agreed o deviate a half-chain road, but this vas considered useless, and a wider oad was insisted on. It was then greed to make a three-quaqrter hain wide road, and to do this it *ns necessary to go into the creek. .he plan had been submitted to and pproved of by the Lands Department. The board leased the <juarry n order to get stone for its Requirements, and under the lease it could <move whatever stone it needed, pro-' ided it did not interfere with the ied of the creek. Mr. Bycroft had, hrough the deviation, been able to .ispose of his land satisfactorily. He ontended he had no claim whatever, \ nd before the creek could be damned up permission from the Minister .f Internal Affairs would have to be •bj-ained. He would oppose it to the >itter end. The board had met Mr. Jycroft in every possible way. The ;lace in questiorf was on the road, md not on Mr Bycroft's property, t'hevboard had certainly blown the tpne away in order to construct a eiaining wall and to allow flood, water to get away, because there was* i danger of the butter factory, which .vas absolutely essential to the district, being damaged as the result ,f a flood." The road boundary was n the creek. On the chairman's motion it was decided to reply stating that the board declined to acknowedge any responsibility in the matter. , The Hospital Board Levy. Owing to being seriously handicapped for the want of funds to main;;in its, institutions, the Auckland hospital and Charitable Aid c<juested the Tuakau Town forward its contribution, amounting tr £l2O 5s 2d, as early as possible. Jn the motion of Messrs. Sim and uapwood the account was passed Lor payment. Street LightingMr. Arrowsmith urged that steps be taken to have the street lamps lit on dark nights. Referred to Works Committee. Quarry Sites. The engineer was instructed to report on the suitability of the stone in the quarry on the property formerly owned by Mr. J. Fulton for ouilding purposes, on the motion it Mr. Sim. Public Swimming -*» th.
The construction of a fhiblic swimming bath was advocated by Mr. J, ' 3. Sim. He pointed out that TuakW p was eminently situated, because there ,vas plenty of'stone nearby and a ;reek running almost through the town. A good bath could be erected it a very moderate cost, and apart, "rem being a valuable asset from a wealth point of view, it was valaable n the interests of the town. Everything lent itself to the erection of a iath. The chairman said that When he question of a war memorial Was fnder consideration he was prepared . to give a suitable site, gratis, for a )ath, but unfortunately the public lid not accept his offer. Since then the land had been sold. He would do il! in his power to assist in having a bath constructed, pointing out that it would be a great acquisition to the district. The matter was referred to the .engineer for a report on the master. Engineer's Report. Jj The engineer, Mr. J. Routly, reported that everything was in readiness. to receive metal on Gibson's Road md Carr Street.—Received.
