ROOSE'S BUSH LOAN.
POLL TOMORROW.
A poll of the ratepayers of Ihe Borough of Pukckohc will be taken to-morrow on a proposal to raise for the purchase of the property known as Roose's Bush, and for the formation and metalling of loads leading thereto. Thre property, comprising approximately 22 acres, is one that the, people of Pukekohe have for many years desired to obtain as a public park. A poorly attended meeting of ratepayers was held in the Borough Council Chambers last night to discuss the proposal. Mr. R. F. Webster said he was in ■ favour of securing the park, but I thought part of the roading pioposition should be abandoned, and the money devoted to the purchase of land not now included in the park. This bush, some four or five acres in extent, formed a shelter belt to the main bush, and if cut down would expose the main bush to destruction by gales. A speaker contended that the four acres alluded to contained about one and u-half or two acres of bush at the most. It was so sparse that a cart could be driven through it anywhere.
! Mr. T. E. McMillan thpught the uitepayers wouM/be well advised ..to take the property now that they had the chance; they would never have another opportunity, because the » wner could get mucli. more for the property by private sale than the borough was offering. " Those present were unanimously of the opinion that the property as .a. whole was eminently suitable for park and recreation purposes.
