A SUNDAY SCHOOL HALL.

PRESBYTERIAN DECISION

A meeting of the congregation of St. James' Church was held on the 24th ult. to discuss the erection of a Sunday school hall in connexion with the work of the Church. The Rev. S. Nixon presided, and the meeting was opened with praise. There was a good attendance and great interest displayed in the matter.

The secretary, Mr. D. R. Hamilton, explained that some months ago a sub-committee was appointed to go into the question of building a hall. That committee bad submitted its finding, which had been endorsed by the committee of management, and it was now for the congregation to ratify that endorsement and discuss the proposal. The Rev. S. Nixon pointed out that they should keep in view the necessity of erecting the hall so as to include all the requirements of a sccial hall for young men and women, and also serve the needs of a Y.M.C.A. in the community.

After a good deal of keen discussion, Mr. Gundy moved that the proposal to build a hall for Sunday school work be accepted by the congregation, and that immediate steps be taken to consider ways and means.

In seconding the motion, Mr. Nicholson described the difficulty of carrying on Sunday school work at the present time, with a hundred children in attendance at the school. He believed that as soon as a permit could be obtained the work should be begun. After being spoken to by Mr. Hamilton, Mr. Whitford and others, the motion was carried unanimously. The cost of the building is to be between £2OOO and £3OOO.

A large committee was formed to initiate a campaign to collect funds. The business of the meeting was interspersed with vocal items, which were much enjoyed by those present: The following contributed to the programme:—St\ James' Choir, Mrs. Campbell, Mr. J. Brown, Miss Pufman, Master Jack O'Malley, and Misses R. Blake, M. Perkins, K. Crosbie. Mrs. Marshall officiated at the organ.

The meeting was closed with the singing of the Doxology, after which supper was dispensed.
