THAT MUCH ABUSED PARK.

£4OO COLLECTED FOR MEMORIAL

"Quite ;t number of people are under a misapprehension," said the Mayor at the meeting of the Borough Council on Wednesday, when he was referring to the Fallen" Soldiers' Memorial. It had come to his notice tha_t some people thought that Mr. Roulston's name would be placed over the gate entering the park donated to the borough by Mr. W. Roulston. He had seen Mr. Roulston on the matter, and he had stated definitely he never wished to have his name .there. Mr. Roulston's name would not be on the war memorial at all. The park would always be Known as Roulston Park, but the name of the park would not affect the war memorial in any way. It was proposed to have erected over the gate an inscription, "Public War Memorial by the Residents of Pukekohe," or something to that effect, said the Mayor. He asked the press; to take a note of his remarks, so that the public would know the true facts of the case. An endeavour is to be made to have the memorial unveiled when the Prime Minister and other Ministers of the Crown are in Pukekohe in connexion with the opening of the Technical High School.

The Mayor also stated that as a resulj; of the canvass for subscriptions towards the erection* of the memorial £4OO was now in hand. He hoped to get the balance very shortly. The following are further contributions to the war memorial:—J. and D. Roulston , £25; Farmers' Union Trading Co., £ls; Ft Perkins and Co., £10; Mr. and Mrs. A. P.
