A SHOCKING FATALITY.

The body of Mr. Bedelph, a returned soldier, was found yesterday on his farm, lie having died from the result of a shocking accident. / Mr. West, the local storekeeper and postmaster, on receipt of a telegram of inquiry from deceased's sister, who resides in Mount Eden, as to whether her brother had been out to the store this week for his weekly provisions, rode out to the farm to find out if he was all right, as he had. not .paid his weekly visit. iffter finding the shanty closed up M-r. West made a search and found the dead body of Mr. Bedelph <m the track with one foot severed. He immediately communicated with the police at Papakura. who came out. and, with Mr, West, removed the body to the shantv pending its removal to the Drurv Hote4. where the inquest will he held to day. After further search Ihe foot was found where deceased had been splitting posts, the axe beside it, he evidently having accidentally severed the foot, the axe being exceptionally sharp. The po'or 'fellow had managed to crawl for fully haljF-a-mile before he died. The farm is in a raSther isolated place, and no houses near it, so that he may have be-r. lying there for days, and no one would have come aen ss the body Much, sympathy is felt for his relatives and friends, for he had bought his farm in the rufigh. and by steady work and perseverance had got quite a good p;trt of it under cultivation, and his crops were looking well. No further particulars are available as yet.
