THE WAR MEMORIAL.
"R.F.W." REPLIES:
Sir,—With reference to the lettei in your Tuesday's issue, signed by our worthy Mayor, I simply have to say that the initials "R.F.W." were not meant as a blind against the vision of the Mayor, for I was aware that he would be able to identify the writer, and that was all I cared about. The Mayor states that he found quite a jiumber of people with principles; it is well that it is in some respects, as in the present circumstance. The method or principle, an he terms it, adopted by him to defeat the vote given 'Kv "the ratepayer is a very objectionable one. My thanks are due to the Mayor for his unintentional corroboration of my statement that many ratepayers were not expected to take any notice of the advertisement calling a meeting in the Borough Council Chambers with reference to the war memorial, thev being fully satisfied that the question was already decided. The war memorial will have the support of the men with- principles if the business is managed in the right, way. The Mayor has not explained whv the irenerous gift of Mr. Rulston should be called "The Roulston Memorial Park '" R.F.W.
