EARLY COMPLETION EXPECTED In the Public Works Statement r< cently issued by the Hon. J. G Coates, Minister for Public Works reference is made to the Waiuk* branch of the North Island Mai: Trunk Railway as follows: — Patumahoe-Waiuku (4 miles T: chains to 12 miles 15 chains equa' 7 miles To chains). -A goods" service from Patumahoe to Mauku has beer, maintained. Platelaying beyom Mauku has reached the 7-miles pet and beyond this point banks and cul verts at various points have bee completed. Contracts have been le for the erection of the Pukeowhar and Fernleigh station buildings, an< orders have been placed for the tim ber for the Waiuku station building: Fifty-three men are engaged. Th completion of the line will depenc largely on the ability of the Rail way Department to convey the bal last from near Auckland. At preseri the shortage of trucks is acute. Pn vided miterials arrive, rails will I to Waiuku at the end and fit for goods traffic at the en of March.
It also states that the liability a March 31, 1920, was £198; estimateamount required to be voted, £250, 000; amount voted in 1919-1920, £2O. 000; expended, £22,601.
