OBITUARY.
MR. S. CLARK.
(Papakura Correspondent.)
The death of Mr. Samuel Clark took place at his residence. Mr. Clark, who was a bootmaker, came to Auckland in the very early sixties from the §£uth of his parents, immediat^Byi Papakura, where he resided aily till the time of his death, reason of the family doming to New Zealand was the trouble that' ensued from the Chartist riots in that particular part of the country whence they came. The deceased was not here, however, before he struck trouble in the Maori War. and he served through the whole of its time in the Auckland Province unscathed save for the loss of a finger; necessarily he saw a good deal of action, receiving the war medal. Mr. Clark ffilfilled his duties well as a citizen in local politics, and was particularly well liked and trusted by all who' knew him. He passed away as he had lived, quietiy, his illnehs being very brief. j^ The funeral service was contracted very impressively oy the Rev. Mr. Hinton on Sunday afternoon, when there was a very large gathering of friends and citizens. w_ Mrs. Clark and family (two daugff tors) will have the deep sympathy of many people.
MR. WILLIAM FULTON. Scarcely had the announcement of j the death of Mr. Clark been madj/ when there appeared another, of ."the Jeath of Mr. William Fulton^* - " The deceased was a vetejfcn 0 f the British Navy, and saw Considerable iction, the most important in which it took part was M the war with China at the taking of the Baku forts, for which he received his* medal. On securing his discharge from he came to south New Zealand' leaving, however, for the old country in 1863. He was only Home $ couple of weeks when he left for Auckland in the "Viola," landing at Clevedon in 1864 with a brother, and settling in Papakura has been a landmark in the place. He retired from farming some years ago, and enjoyed good health until recently. He was twice married, his second wife predeceasing him about a week ago. There is one daughter living, Mrs. ' Baxter, wife of Mr. Baxter, who was so long connected with the Pukekohe Show. Mr. Fulton will be kindly remembered. The funeral took place on Monday. - »
