COUNTY ELECTIONS.

PROBABLE CANDIDATES. The county elections will take place on November 10, but so far nothing of a startling nature has occurred. Several of the present members do not intend to seek re-elec-tion.

Mauku Riding: Cr. J. S. Montgomcrie does not intend to seek re-elec-tion on account of his wife's continued ill-health. Mr. Benjamin Charles, a popular Karaka resident, has signified his intention of seeking election. Portion of the present riding will in future be in the newlyformed Karaka riding, and Mr Charles intends standing for this portion, while we understand Mr. E. C. Cuff, of Patumahoe, will contest Patumahoe and Waiau Pa end, which will be known as the Mauku riding. Pukekohe East Riding: Cr. H. Wilcox has not yet definitely decided, but it is almost certain he will be amongst those seeking re-election.

Pukekohe West: Cr. Thos. Woods has decided to retire from the contest, and it is stated that several will probably fight the seat. Mercer Riding: Cr. Keith is a probable candidate, but it is believed several others will oppose him. Hunua Riding: Cr. T. J. Lockwood has decided to stand down and Mr. G. W. Heald will make a bid to succeed Cr. Lockwood. Awhitu Riding: Cr. Short is a nonstarter, but we understand Messrs. Hamilton and H. O. Mellsop will "try conclusions for the honour. Waipipi Riding: The present chairman, Cr. W. Claud Motion, is a sure starter, and so far there does not appear to be an opponent. Drury Riding: Representations have been made to Cr. W. H. Thomas to seek re-election, and yesterday he definitely decided to have another shot at regaining the seat. Waiuku Riding: Nothing definite is known about this riding, but, it is quite on the cards that Cr. R. T. Reid will seek re-election.
