FARMERS ORGANISING.
AWAKE AT LAST. COMBINING FARMING INTERESTS Confirmation of statements frequently made in the "Times'' leading colmuns in reference to matters of vital interest to'farmers was given at an important meeting of New Zealand Farmers' Union officials and representatives of co-operative $ dairy concerns in Auckland on Wednesday. .\ For instance, Mr. A. Ross, provincial president, remarked that- the lack . of co-operation among farmers was remarkable, and that the lack of success in applying political pressure in justifiable cases was due to this fact* and also because other interests were., better organised. • '/' a Mr. Jajlfßoddie: "Another reason . for the fffmers becoming united was that capitalistic influences were com* bining to combat the co-operative movement. If the farmers were not.; ready to face eventualities there was ' a great risk of them being crushed between the upper and nether millstones of Labour and Capitalism." The above is precisely what we said in a leader last week, even to the phraseology. A resolution was carried that a committee consisting of two representatives each of the Farmers' Union executive, Farmers' Union Trading Company, Farmers' Freezing Company, Waikato Farmers' Co-opera-tive Auctioneerng Company, .NorflT* Auckland Dairy Association, and South Auckland Dairy Association, be appointed to draw up a scheme and 'frame a policy for combining the various farming interests of the pro* ' vince.
