MANUREWA TOWN BOARD.
IHOftTHLY MEETING. LOCAL MATTERS DISCUSSED. The usual monthly meeting of the Manurewa Town Board, bcirg th< lirst general meeting of the newly elected board was held in the pujuli< nail iast evening. Thpre were pre sent Messrs. T. J. Conn (chairman) C. H. Lupton, E. S. Peglc-r, G. Galla uer, W. T. Cox, G. Smith, and M. D Kirs.
The minutes of the previous meet mgs of the board were road and con firmed.
Road ft'ietal.
The question of metal supplies was further cliscusseti. Mr. Lupton moved that immediate steps be taken,by the works committee to obtain information regarding suitable sites for a quarry. Mr. Smith stated tnat Mr. Gray was prepared to supply crushed metal at the same rate as it could be landed on the trucks.
Mr. ftgi'-jr stated Lhat the metal was the very best procurable in tiie district, a:ul said it was a pity that Lhey should go to Morningside for metal when such good material was available locally. it was resolved that the works committee muA'o immediate inquiries, ToiS-gaies. In dlscussi.-g the question of the proposed toll-gate members agreed that it they were to be responsible tor ti.e maintenance of the main ioaus the necessary finance would be piocured by tnis means. In reference to ti;e request Irom the Public v.orks Depaitment for inionnation .tgarurng the proposed cnarges it was resoivetl thai local bodies already .iaving toll-gates be communicated with and their charges ascertained it was decided that Mr. F. Willis oe appointed building inspector subject to ids consent. It was agreed mat be allowed one hall of the building rates collected. In reference to the loan money required for the purpose of -the Puriri Park estate, the' chairman moved that the boards lawyers be instructed to raise the KtiiJU required for the completion of the purchase of the property. Tee motion was moved and carried-without dissent. The question of roads in the board's district was the cause of considerable discussion. It was pointed out that the trouble in the past had been a difficulty in getting the materia! carted. The scoiia was obtainable, a .d tliey were now in a position to get carting done, and it was suggested that the holes in the mahi roads be "died imu.-diately. In this connexion it was resolved that the works coinm'ltec be instructed to' draw up a schedule of duties and to advertise for a permanent surfaceman.
