FRANKLIN HOSPITAL DISTRICT.

INVESTIGATIONS IVIADE. As a result of enquiries by the Pucekohe Chamber of Commerce as to ;he prospects of hospital facilities )eing provided in Franklin, Dr White, )f the Ministry of Health, visited Pukekohe lecently and interviewed the president of the chamber (Mr. R. P. Webster), from whom he secured nuch'valuable information in respect ;o local conditions. • Dr. White ultinately expressed the opinion that ;here would be little trouble in get ;ing a cottage hospital erected at 'ukekohe. The matter came up at the meeting if the chamber last night. Mr. F. Perkins remarked that part >f the £4OOO or £SOOO hospital and jharitable aid levy on Franklin every year might well be spent in Franklin. The president commented that it was well known that the .county helped very largely to maintain »the Auckland Hospital, the reason being that a greater percentage of country patients paid their dues than of city patients. MINISTERIAL PROMISE. The Hon. C. J. Parr (Minister of Public Health) wrote informing the chamber that a report was being prepared, and would be forwarded to Pukekohe as soon as completed. Members were of the opinion that Franklin should go straight out i'o, a separate hospital district. Mr. T. E. McMillan considered that the residents of the Onewhero, Port Waikato, Pukekawa and Whangapeln ridings would be well served by joinJag in with Franklin for hospital purposes. This could be clone without seceding from the Raglan County. Mr. F. Perkins proposed and Mr. C. Cooper seconded'a motion that the secretary write to the Minister of Education asking him to notify the chamber of the date he would be visiting Pukekohe in connexion with the farm plots proposed in conjunction with the Franklin Technical High ! Schlool. The chairman could then interview him in respect to the hospi- ' tal district question.
