CLAIM FOR MAINTENANCE On behalf of her late pati (Winifred Strangward Howai Nurse Hilda Dryland, of Papaki took action-against Gilmore Howi alleging that, being the father o certain female child, born, on 1 16, 1920, he had failed to pro? adequate maintenance." Claim \ made for £7 7s doctor's fees, £25 past maintenance, and that the fendant should be compelled to cept custody of the child.. His Worship, Mr. C. R. McK< S.M., ordered payment (defend I consenting) of the £7 7s doctor's penses, and those incidental to birth; also, 131 10s for maintena to date. Defendant agreed to t custody of the child. In default, t months' imprisonment in Auckh gaol. Defendant was at one time engaj rabbit trapping on the Karaka, i time of the prosecution \ said to be travelling on behalf of Auckland firm. He was usually n dressed, and a man of good appt ance. The mother of the child, the 1 Winifred Strangward Howard, w* patient in Nurse Dryland** home Papakura. There is quite a little exciteme in one of Auckland'* suburbs ju now. The old buffers are again < ganising a great social event. T people are on tip-toe, expecting som thing a little out of the ordinary, ai judging by last year's undertakir they will not be disappointed. The object of the Old Buffers' A sociation apj>ears to be thafffce m< of the district get together Once year irrespective of "politics < opinions, or Vhether previous df ferences have strained friendly reh tions, to organise and carry out* social event, and be one happy fan ilv for the time being. Each one pays a specified sum int a treasury to cover expenses, an the surplus proceeds are donated t some worthy local object. - Last year when the returned sol diers were their guests, doctors an schoolmasters, carpenters suid brick layers, tradesmen and their custom ers could all be seen carrying out th duties from M.C's to the very menu work of sweeping floors and wagH dishes, the rule being that thel* must do all the work the event. RAM ARAM A. 4 LIBRARY A very successful sodaTTn fcid of funds for tho school library was held on Wednesday evening. The head teacher, Mr. Trimmer, was the promoter, and judging by the tickets that were ber present, there should be a substantial balance for the funds after expenses were paid. During the evening Mr. Kraeft Trimmer very ■■ played some violin solos. The yonill! men prepared supper and very creditably dispensed it, after which dancing was continued till the small hours of the morning. Mr. Barker supplied the music in his usual good style.
