FOOTBALL.
PONSONBY, 21, DEFEATS PUKE KOHE 0. On Saturday last a team representing the Pukekohe Football Club, comprised of mostly junior players, journeyed to Auckland to try conclusions with the unbeaten Ponsonby third grade fifteen. The Auckland team proved too classy lor the visitors, especially as regards the play of tbe rear division, and in this department Pukekohe was outclassed. In the forwards the visitors more than heW their own, and on several occasion had Ponsonby hard-pressed, but their defence prevented the maroons from registering a score, although several easy penalty kicks were missed.
For the first quarter Pukekohe bad the advantage, and were hooking the ball from the scrums, with the result that the backs were seen to advantage, and some good play was witnessed, which was recognised by applause from between 10 and 12 thousand spectators. At half-time the score was six {mints to nil. in Ponsonby's favour. The game was continued without .<n interval, which was against the "green" Pukekohe team. The Ponsonby backs pit going and gave a wo.uto. ful exhibition of passing. •The final score was: Ponsonby 21, Pukekohe 0. Quite a number of the ".,ta'.s' of the Pukekohe team suffered great!. 1 ' from "stage"' fright, :nd l.aturally they did not play their usual game. This is a crack team, and on no ac count should anyone'fail to see them. The team plays' brilliant fo/tball. It won the A.R.U. third grade championship and has not tasted defeat in two successive years.
PUKEKOHE V. PONSONBY.
MATCH POSTPONED. At noon to-day the secretary of the Pukekohe Football Club, Mr. F. H. Hewitt, received a telegram from the secretary of the Ponsonby Football Club stating that on account of sickness the Ponsonby third grade team would be unable to travel to Pukek«he to-morrow.
An effort will be made to get the team to visit Pukekohe on Saturday. October 2.
The Pukekohe third grade team travelled to Pokeno on Saturday to try conclusions with a team representing Pokeno and surrounding districts, and resulted in a >vin for the visitors by 8 points to !5. The game was fast and exciting all through. H. Papesch scored for Pukekohe, 6. Brownlee piloting the ball over the bar. G. Brownlee also kicked a penalty goal from a difficult position. The Papakura third grade football team will visit Pukekohe to-morrow to play the home boys. The following members of the Pukekohe team are requested to be on the Domain at 1.46 p.m. sharp: W.
