TEMPORARY MAGISTRATE
FORMALLY WELCOMED., Owing to the transfer of Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., who has been engaged as stipendiary magistrate for this district, to Wellington temporarily, Mr. Arthur Mowlem, S.M., has been temporarily appointed to the Darga-ville-Mercer circuit, which includes Pukekohe and Waiuku, but we understand the appointment only lasts until the end of the present month. Mr. Mowlem presided at the local sitting of the S.M. Court yesterday. Before the business commenced, Mr W. P. Hopkins, the only member of the local bar present, formally wel j coined Mr. Mowlem. In doing so he said he trusted that the relationship
between the bench and bar would be very pleasant. ! Mr. A. Hanna, of Auckland, con- ■ gratulated His Worship on his ap- ! pointment to this cistrict. He told Mr. Mowlem he wound find the mem- j bers of the bar a decent lot, and he ! was in for a really good time. Mr. Mowlem thanked them for their kind words of welcome, but he re- 1 gretted the appointment was only temporary. He hop-id it would have been a permanent appointment, but the fact of his b >ing engaged in Auckland in the pr: ctice of his profession for many ye: rs was no doubt the cause of his bei tg sent South. We understand Mr. Mowlem has been appointed to Duncdin. !
