PROPOSED RAILWAY
i With reference to the proposed ! !v <•' Const railway (particulars of I which were published in our report ! of the last meeting of the Manukau I County Council), Mr. T. .]. Lockwood, j chairman of the Hunua-Paparimu | Railway I-eague, wrote stating that Hunua district was willing to render I whatever assistance it could. He also forwarded a letter received from the Hon. Ja.s. Allen, then ActingPrime Minister, dated June 20, J9I ( J. The writer mentioned that he had brought the request for a survey from Mangatangi through Paparimu and Hunua Valleys of the proposed railway route before the Minister of Public Works, and the Minister informed him tiiat owing to the shortage of engineers consequent upon j their absence with the Kxpeditionary I Forces the work had not been able to proceed; but the matter would not . be lost sight of, and all routes which present my favourable prospects would be investigated before a decifion was arrive.: at ns to which route would be finally selected for the construction of the proposed line. The matter was deferred until some future meeting of the council,
