PUKEKOHE ELECTRICITY SUPPLY
THREATENED BY COAL SHORTAGE. GREATEST ECONOMY NEEDED. I\' USE OF CURRENT. HOMBAY COALFIELD. POSSIBILITY OF DEVELOPMENT. The liKicmi'li waterworks and electrical engineer (Mr. Woods Wyatt) reports that on account of the shortage of coal it is hiphlv probable that the supply of current will shortly he restricted to fewer hours than at present, and this was the reason of I the street lights being cut off last I night. In the meantime he urges all consumers to use as little current as possible, thus conserving the meagre coal supply now in hand. We learn that there is a possibility of coal being obtained from the Bombay coalfield, though no reliable data in respect to this source is yet available. Certainly, if the outcrop gives at all reasonably good indications the Borough Council would be justified in endeavouring to purchase the land with a view to developing tits field.]
