Some interesting information regarding the Independent Order of Oddfellows of New Zealand was given by Grand Master Bro. R. Robb at the Christchurch welcome to Grand Sire Bro. Borst and Mrs. Borst. Bro. Robb stated that the membership was 6578 at the last Grand. Lodge. Session, and since then had increased to 7261; in the North Island this membership was increasing without any necessity to go out into the highways and byways. The combined sick and funeral funds totalled £127,702; there had been a substantial increase during the year, and the valuations, when computed, would 6how a surplus of £27,000; consequent on the consolidation of funds the Order had been able to earn an additional 2 per cent, in interest; there was on mortgage a sum of £115,000. During the war the Government had treated the friendly societies very liberally, and the 1.0.0. F. received £3623 as subsidy for the payment of soldiers' dues, Eu: this they were very grateful to Government, as it indicated that in giving this subsidy they recognised that they were helping institutions that were a great assistance to the wuntry.
