The annual meeting of the Pukekohe Bowling Club will be held in the Borough Council Chambers on the evening of Tuesday, August 24. Boxes for the reception of the ballot papers are now at Mr. W. T. Jones' saddlery shop.

A class of seven-year- old boys and girls in a Feilding school were asked by their teacher to write a sentence which included the word "Scarce." With only one exception they all wrote "Sugar is scarce." The exception wrote, "Everything is scarce."

The Patumahoe branch of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, M.U., are holding a social and dance in the Patumahoe Hall on Tuesday, August •'I- The hospitality of the Patumahoe brethren and the popularity of the Patumahoe Hall as a dancing resort are so well known as to make comment unnecessary, but on this occasion several new features will be introduced which will probably induce a record gathering.

The. funerals of the late Mrs. Harriet Higginson, of Pukekohe, and of the late Mrs. Clara Brown, of Waiuku, took place at Pukekohe on Saturday. The burial service was conducted by the Rev. J. P. Cowie. l'heer was a large attendance of relatives and friends of both deceased, who were widely known and highly esteemed by all with whom they came in contact.
