GOLF NOTES
I (By Mid Iron). A qualifying round for the captain's prize was played last Saturday. Unfortunately a heavy shower caused several players to withdraw after playing a few holes, but the majority completed the two rounds. As the men were competing- with the ladies on two-thirds medal handicap as against the ladies' full medal handicap, the following qualified and will play against each other in the order in which their names appear: D. Roulston (handicap 18) v. J. Prescott (handicap 30); E. Clarke (25), v. B. P. Hopkins (20); F. P. Rowe (25), v. J. W. Johns (18); Chas Bonner (30), c. Mrs. Bayly (18).
A REMARKABLE SHOT. Of many remarkable shots played on the Miramar golf links (says "The Post") one played by Mr. Godfrey Magnus is surely amongst the most remarkable. He had played for a green, and had landed in a position about half-a-dozen yards from the hole, when another player, bound for another green, sliced badly, and his ball hit that of Mr. Magnus's with just sufficient strength to roll it into the hole. Mr. Magnus vouches for the truth of the storv, und says that he very much doubts whether it has ever been done before in the history of the game. When asked how it counted, Mr. Magnus said the shot counted as if it had been holed direct.
