DISTRICT NEWS
PAPATOETOE.
TOWN BOARD MEETING,
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Papatoetoe Town Board was held on Tuesday last, when there were present: Messrs. J. Watson (chairman), A. W. Hall, J. Bryant, T. W. Mulcock, A. U. Timewell, J. D'Eath and the clerk (Mr. E. Earnest).
War Memorial.
A committee was appointed to get funds lor a war memorial, and approached the board and requested it to widen the roadway west approach to the oridge, which would provide a good central site for the monument. The Hoard decided to apply to the Auckland Home Trust Hoard and the Railway Department, the respective owners of the land on either side of the road, so as to get sufficient land for the purpose.
Repairs.
It was decided to request the Manukau County Council to carry out repairs on Portage Road, one of the county roads on the boundary of the town district, and also to enquire from the council what steps they were taking in the transfer of the recreation ground to the town district.
Public Cemetery.
The question of obtaining ground for a public cemetery was deferred until a future meeting of the board.
PRIVATE DANCE.
A private dance was held in the Public Hall on Friday night last. A fair crowd was in attendance, and the floor being in good order a very enjoyable evening was spent.
CONCERT.
Mrs. Archdale Taylor held a very successful concert in aid of St. John's Kindergarten fifnd. The programme submitted was well appreciated by the audience, and altogether it was a pleasant evening's entertainment.
