PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.

SPLENDID RECORD,Sr *

RAISED. £ The activities of the Bombay Patriotic Committee were brought to an end at a meeting held* on Saturday night last. Mr. J. A. Lowry presided. The credit balance in hand of £3 5s Gd it was decided to present to the Bombay soldiers' memorial to be used for the memorial stone.

Votes of thanks were passed to the chairman and secretary* and appreciation was expressed for the splendid response and support of the publie (especially the ladies) to the work of this committee during its activities. The Bombay Patriotic Committee was formed on June 1, 1915, and has done a good work right throughout the war period in sending gifts of parcels, Y.M.C.A. coupons, postal ,-•« notes, etc., at intervals to the sixtyseven men whom it was considered had claims on this. district. Of the above number thirteen had paid the supreme penalty. Upwards of forty had been welcomed home to the district, and presented with a memento on their return.

The totnl amount ofr money received by the committee was £BBO 12s B\»>d, V n( ' after paying hall hire, music, etc., material for two bazaars, and other expenses incidental to the holding of two two-day bazaars, the committee paid to the various patriotic funds, and in gifts to soldiers the sum of 2782 18 The committee wisb./ffr acknowledge the kindness of Mr. - W. K. Cornthwaite, who audited tile larger efforts of the committee. Bombay has every reason to be proud of it* war ell'ort, as in addition to the above figures, which deal with the work of the Bombay Patriotic Committee only, other sums of money were sent to the Red Cross fund of approximately £3OO, while over J:Gofl has been raised since ,the war for a war memorial. All together nearly £2OOO has been raised locally since the war began,; which is a splendid record for a district of this size. ■>
