OBITUARY

MRS. M. RHODES. It is our sad tlutv to chionicle the death id' a very old resident of TaiirantM in lhe person of Mrs. Melinda Rhodes, winch occurred on Saturday morning last after a brief illness. The late. Mrs. Rhodes, who was 77 years of was born in Glasgow, and when about 12 years of age accompanied her "parents to New Zealand, settling in Auckland. ,She was married in that city to Mi'. Richard Rhodes, and for some time they lived at Thames. They moved to Tauranga about 4"> years ago, and Mrs Rhodes iad resided there ever since. Her husband, who was in business there, took a keen interest in public affairs. As the lesult of a boating accident about 'M years ago he and one of his sons were drowned in the harbour. The late Mrs. Rhodes was held in high esteem by all who knew her and the relatives will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their bereavement. She is survived by a yrown-up family of live sons and live daughters, and a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchild-ren. The sons are Mr. T. W. Rhodes, M.P., Thames: Mr. W. Rhodes. Claremont, Western Australia: Mr. R. Rhodes. Gisborne; Mr. C. C. Rhodes, Auckland. The daughters are: Mrs. P. Munroe. Tauranga; I\irs. C. Laird, Pukekohe: Mrs. 1). Andrews, Hamilton: Mi's. J. Boyce, Epsom: and Mrs. \. Sorrensen. Hamilton. The late Mrs. Melinda Rhodes was a sister of the late V.. \\. Waddel, who I'm' main" years was Mavor of Auckland.
