THE LABOUR MEMBER.
AND THE IRISH QUESTION. Mr. Hollands motions in the House are becoming even more irrevelanl to the good New Zealand. Recently he gave notice of motion relating to the government of Ireland in tvHouse the other day. His motion referred to "the tragical situation in Ireland as the direct outcome of the denial of sell-governim 'it l( the Irish people, and recorded "iMoiudihed condemnation of the military occupation of Ireland." It proposed thai the House should '■respectfully claim lor our kith and kin in Ireland that lull measure ol self-determination for which the soldiers id New Zealand. including mai.v sons of Ire land, believed they weie lighting in the recent war." Mr. Massey: I hope this (jiiestion will be looked into before it '.joes on the Order Paper. Mr. Holland: It is a notice of mo t ion. More censorship ! The motion did not reach the Older Paper.
A Bad Joke The leade : - of the Labour Party was further called to order sharnly in the House' recently. He was d'scussing a Bill dealing with the naturalisation of aliens, and ii appeared that he was impatient of any revocation of naturalisation. He set out to make his point this way: "You received the Prince the other da\ with open arms." Voices: So we should. Mr. Holland: I don't say that you shouldn't. My point "s that you did not let his long and illustrious lineid' ancestors interfere at all. There were murmurs of annoyance all ove' - the House, and Mr. Malcolm, the Chairman of Committees, told Mr. Holland that he was not in order, and that he must confine himself to the subject matter of the Bill.
