MAGISTRATE'S COURT
(Before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.) SUPPLYING LIQUOR TO NATIVE. John Pau, a native of New Caledonia, was charged with supplying a Maori, iiahu Potini, of Turanganui, with liquor for consumption off licensed premises. Defendant pleaded that he purchased a bottle of schnapps and £ave it to the Maori in the hotel. Constable Thompson said the defendant was known to be dealing in liquor with the Maoris. A fine of £lO and costs 7s was imposed. AIDING AND ABETTING. Kahu Fotini admitted receiving the schnapps from Pau, and for aiding and Abetting Pau, in the commission of an offence, was convicted and fined £5, and ordered to pay costs 295. WILFUL DAMAGE. Tawera, a native, was charged with wilfully damaging a pane ot glass valued at 10s, the property of Percy; Ro.ve, storekeeper, Tuakau. Defendant pleaded guilty.
Constable Thompson said on June 5 a fight was commenced in Howe's shop, defendant starting the "mixi'p." The pane of glass had been paid for by two other Maoris, convicted last Court day. A fine of SI and 26s 6d costs was inflicted, while a prohibition order under section 217 of the Licensing Act was made against defendant. FINED FOR "SCORCHING."
"Scorching' hi King Street, Pukekohe, by driving a motor cycle at a speed of more than 10 miles per hour cost Benjamin Balle, farmer, of Pukekohe, £2 7s. Sergeant Cowan said at about five minutes to 12 o'clock on June 21 defendant lode his motor-cycle through the street at a speed between L 0 and 25 miles per hour. The sergeant stated that another man also rode through the street at an excessive speed, but he could not identify this offender.
The Magistrate said that a motorcycle was a dangerous thing ijoing fast through a street. He imposed a fine of £2, and ordered Balle, who did not appear to pay 7s Court costs. TOO MANY "SPOTS."
For indulging too frequently in alcoholic beverages on June 29 a first offender, who failed to appear, had the amount of his bail, 10s, extreated, together with an extra os for the cost of conveying him from the railway station to the "cooler," where he spent a bitterly cold night.
