Application was leceived from Mr. Dreadon, surveyor, asking the board s approval of a suggested alteration of the bend at the end of Cornwall Road to a straight run across the filling. The road in question is a new one, and the proposed bend was considered unnecessary. On the motion of Messrs. McCullougli and Timewell the suggested alteration was approved, provided the county engineer agreed alteration. The matter was held over until next meeting.

The Papatoetoe School Committee wrote drawing the board's attention to the existing danger to school children, caused by motorists travelling at an excessive speed along the Great South Road, recently regraded and formed by the board, in the vicinity of the school. It was pointed out that large numbers of children use this road in going to and returning from school. Members concurred that there was a danger to the children, and it was decided to request the Auckland Automobile Association to supply boards warning motorists to. travel slowly for erection on the Great South Road by the board.

FALLEN SOLDIERS' MEMORIAL

There is a movement on foot to erect a monument in memory of soldiers who departed from Papatoetoe, and who made the supreme sacrifice in the fight for humanity, freedom, and justice against the common foe. Up to the present time a suitable site has not been chosen. The committee aims at raising £SOO for the purpose, and canvassers are at pre sent scouring the district for subscriptions.

Keen Demand For Land.

Papatoetoe land is still in keen demand, and sections are 'jelling rapidly. The Sunny Park Estate, situated on the Great South Road, has recently been subdivided and placed on the market. Already more than half the estate has been disposed of.

To give an idea as to the keen demand for Papatoetoe residences, practically every house on the mar. ket a few months ago has "hanged hands. At the present time there are 20 new houses in the course of erection, and all are nearing completion. The new offices in concrete for Messrs. Ernest and Dilworth have been completed, and this enterprising firm expects to remove from their present premises in the course of a few days.
