MUNICIPAL HOUSING
BOROUGH COUNCIL. SCHEME APPROVED. On Wednesday night a special meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council was held. On account of being a victim of influenza, the Mayo.' (Mr. C. K. Lawrie) was unable to be present, his place being taken by the Deputy-Mayor (Cr. D. R. Hamilton). Crs. Geo. Armstrong. A. P. Daysh. R. H .MeGough, J. Keith F. Mo.;row and J. Patterson attended, and ithe clerk (Mr. J. F. Deane), and the foreman (Mr. S. Clews). The Deputy-Mayor favoured one block of land, and erecting houses thereon, -in quarter-acre sections. This would be cheaper than electing separate houses at different points. The council itself would need two houses for its workmen, as it was impossible to keep trem under p v sent conditions.
It was generally stated that these were several decent, industrious well-paid artisans \nd general wooers in Pukekohe who would giadlv avail themselves of an opportunity of buying houses on the regular instalment plan, and who would bg prepared to pay a reasonable deposit. On the motion of the Deputy-May-or, it was decided that applications be called for from workmen desirous of acquiring houses, and also for oft'e. ,s of land, up t<> t.vo and a-ha.li acies, for saie for this purpose.»• An oHirial announce")) nt is advertised. Tin town clerk was instructed to securS Government plans for the dwellings, and to se'lire all particulars.
