CLOSE OF THE WOOL SALES.
A" GENERAL DECLINE. * LONDON, May 7. The wool sales closed quietly. Amongst the prices recorded for New Zealand clips on the last days were: Suney IVlh 58y 2 d; C.M.G. 25d. The number of bales catalogued was' 151U20. About 3800 wore withdrawn. Best shafty combing memos met with v. good demand from United States and Home buyers. March values were maintained. Medium faulty tombings declined from 10 to 15 per tent. Short carbonising sorts met with a fair Continental demand, and declined 5 per cent. Best comeback c'-ossbreds showed little change. Shabbier and faultier parcels declined from 5 to 10 per cent. Medium and cmssbreds declined 10 per cent. Scoureds fnd slipes also declined 10 per cent. Merino lambs' wool was unchanged. Crossbred lanibs' wool declined f> per cent. The principal cause of the decline has. been the curtailment of credit by the banks the rise of the bank rate, and the disturbing effects of. the Budget which combined to check many would be operators. RHICES FOR POTATOES. The fixing of prices for potatoes was discussed by the Noi'tli Canterbury Potato Giowers' Association on Saturday, and it was resolved to suggest not less than £5 lUs for May on trucks, sacks extra, with an increase of 10s for each month.
