DRURY. WELCOME SOCIAL. A welcome home social was held in the Drury Hall on Wednesday, April ... Ml, to.Mf.ior E. D. The tine music supplied by Mrs. Sloane (piano), and Messrs C. Sutherland ami L. Ballard (violins), and •the <%ol evening made the dancing all the more enjoyable. Mrs Geoige . sang some songs between the dances that were much appreciated. During the evening the Rev Hales (t)f Papakura) in a short speech wel- • corned the guests. Mr. W. H. Glasson also spoke. Major Biemner and 'his brother fittingly responded. After the usual chorus of "For They are Jolly Good Fellows," three hearty cheers were given for the guests. r. A good supper was fthen passed round, ufter which the dancing was resumed And continued until 2 a.m., when one of the most enjoyable func-. tions held in Drury for a considerable time was brought to a close.

KARAKA. y SOCIAL CIJLJff DANCE. The optning dance of the Kauka Social Club was held in Karaka No. 1 school on Friday night and proved a great success. There was a fairly large attondance. Amongst those present were noticed Mis w. Urquhart wearing a charming frock of cream lace. Mrs P. Lindesay was smart in creai-I silk. Miss W. Tunks wore black velvelt and cream • lace. Miss Jordan looked charming in white lace and net. Miss Finlayson wore a pretty flowered charmeuse with touches of rose colour. Miss L. Glasson looked graceful in cream lace and net. Miss G. Carpenter wore a pretty saxe blue silk, Miss Cos tar looked well in grey charmeuse. Miss Gibbs wore a very pretty cream frock. There were present also Mesdames Phillips, Bryant, Till and Brown; and Misses Urquhart. Glasson. Worthing- . ton* Swallow. Hunter, Campbell and AP- Jordan (secretary) kindly mMo most of /the dance music, and Miss Costal and Miss M. Tunks the extras Supper was provided by the ladies of the district under the capable management- of Miss Urquhart and Miss L. Gl|»feon. Mr. .Alf. Tiarpenter made a most efficient M.C.-
