MEETINGS OF HOUSEHOLDERS
FURTHER DISTRICT RESULTS. The following further district results of meetings of householders to elect school committees have come to hand:— WAIUKU MEETING. The annual meeting of householders in Waiuku was held on Monday night, when the following committee was elected:—Rev. J. C. Fussell (chairman), Messrs C. J. West, Marks. R. Honey. CM. Thrana. W. Douglas, W. C. Clark, E. W. Dyer. J. McNaughton.
BOMBAY. The annual meeting of householders in the Bombay school district was ; attended by nearly a dozen householders. Mr. A. Best was voted to the chair and read the balance sheet and. report of the past fourteen months' operations. Owing to the difficulty in obtaining material for the work required, and the amount of time lost by the school during the past year, the credit balance shown was somewhat larger than would otherwise have been the case. The election of five members of the committee for the ensuing years was as follows: A. Best (10), R. Donovan (10), H. Wilson (9), A. J. Pople (8) and H. Long (7). Mr. Best was again elected chairman and secretary. RAMARAMA. A householders' meeting was held on the 3rd inst., and the retiring school committee was re-elected with the exception of Mr. Rawley, who did not stand. Mr McKay was elected in his place. Satisfaction with the work of the committee was expressed, and a vote of thanks to the chairman (Mr. D. Lynch) concluded the meeting.
ONEWHERO. There was a good attendance at Onewhero. The outgoing committee, Messrs R. B. Glasgow (chairman), E. A. Parsons (secretary and treasurer), C. E. Walter, E. M. Andrews and J. Cathcart. were unanimously re-elected.
TUAKAU. The annual meeting of householders was held in the school on Monday, May 3. There was a fair attendance. Mr. E. T. Frost was elected to the chair. The chairman stated that the past year had been rather a strenuous one, owing to the late epidemic, but that the teaching staff had overcome all difficulties, and the report of the inspector was one of the best they ever had. Special mention was made of the efficient way in which agricultural and dairy science was taught, and also of the nature studies of the lower classes.
The meeting passed an appreciative resolution regarding the work of the headmaster,' Mr. W. Graham, and his staff". The matter of the unsuitability of the.trains carrying pupils to the technical classes at PukeKohe was brought before the meeting, in a letter from the Whangarata School Committee, and it was decided that the Minister for Railways be approached to see if a more suitable time could be arranged for the trains which convey these pupils. It was resolved to co-operate with the Whangarata School Committee in this matter.
On nominations being called for the outgoing committee, consisting of Messrs E. T. Frost, H. McGuire. L. Logan, F. Laing and J. Dromgool were nominated, and as there were no further nominations these were declared elected. The meeting declared that they had every confidence in them, and that as a forward move was now about to take place in educational matters in Tuakau they considered that they had the experience and knowledge to assist in all matters pertaining to such. At the subsequent meeting Mr. E. T.. Frost was elected chairman and Mr. H. McGuire secretary and treasurer.
A start is to be made to improve the new school grounds, and the work is being put in hand at once. MANUREWA. The following were duly elected members of the school committee for the ensuing year, viz.: Mrs Alice Palmer and Messrs T. W. Bell (treasurer), W. T. Cox, C. Hawthorn. E. Pegler (secretary). A. G. Rule, S. S. Smith, J. L. Vipond an.l C. H. Lupton (chairman).
KOHEKOHE. The annual meeting of householdeds held in the school on Monday evening drew from their comfortab.e homes an attendance of fifteen, nine of whom were nominated for the school committee. After a ballot had been taken the following were declared elected: Messrs I l '. A. Ha - combe (subsequently elected chairman). J. I. Dickey. H. O. Mellsoi*. W. Cooper and B. McEwen.
