TUAKAU TOWN BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The following were present at the monthly meeting of the Tuakau Town Board on Tuesday night:— Messrs Dynes Fulton (chairmanJ, J. Pirrett, J. Mungall. A. Finch. B. Geraghty and the clerk (Mr. A. H. Tapper). Mr. G. Lapwood was absent on account of illness, and also Mr. W. Barnaby. Advice was received that the next meeting of the Raglan County Council would be held next Wednesday (May 12) at Raglan, instead of at Ngaruawahia. The chairman and Mr Mungall were deputed to attend the meeting to put various matters the board is interested in before the council, both deputees declining to accept any payment of expenses. The Auckland Hospital rates are advanced nearly double, from l-5d in the £1 to 7-25ths. The rateable value of the Tuakau Town District is returned at £103,080, which makes the rate payable £l2O 5s 2d, as against £BS 6s 2d last year.—Received .
The district engineer (Mr. D. T. Mcintosh) wrote stating that he had no information in regard to the suggested visit of the general manager of railways to Tuakau in connexion with alterations to yards, which would affect the board's road works. On the motion of the chairman, the clerk was instructed to write to the Minister for Railways (Right Hon W. F. Massey, M.P. for Franklin) asking that the manager should visit Tuakau as previously promised. The board was desirous of carrying out its scheme of work on the eastem side of the line, which works were urgently required, and the board wanted to know the Department's intentions in respect to the overhead bridge. The promised visit was long overdue.—Carried unanimously.
The balance sheet was returned passed by the auditor without comment.
It was decided to ask the constable to take action against owners of stray stock, as empowered by the Act, and also by the board. The chairman gave notice that after next meeting the hour of assembly be fixed at 7 p.m. until September. Mr Geraghty was deputed to make temporary repairs to a culvert on Booker's Road.
Accounts amounting to £454 4s were passed for payment. Though the audit fees per hour were twice as high as last year, owing to the excellent state of the books, the chairman said, the total did not come to as much as it did last year. This result was very satisfactory and creditable to the clerk. The overdraft on the general account was stated at £691 ss, and the credit balance on the loan account at £690 2s 3d.
The clerk was instructed to apply for £IOOO on account of the £ISOO grant for the Tuakau Main Road.
