PRINCE OF WALES' VISIT

TEN MINUTES AT PUKEKOHE.

DEMONSTRATIONS ARRANGID

NEXT TUESDAY

A representative meeting of citizens, of both sexes, was held in the Borough Council Chambers yesterday afternoon to make arrangements for welcoming the Prince of Wales :.t Pukekohe on Tuesday when he will stay here for ten minutes. The; Mayor (Mr. C. K - Lawrie) said the chairman of the Pukekohe School Committee (Mr. F. Perkins) had promised to try and get the school children along for the occasion.—Heartily approved of for ooth children and teachers.

It was suggested that the children should be given a picnic aftei the ceremony.

Mrs. Webb remarked that if there was going to be a holiday on Saturday afternoon, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday there would be some difficulty in regard to the cateiing. Mr. Geo. Armstrong thought a ' bun fight" would meet the bill, also fruit. Sandwiches would be out of the question. Tea c.ould be provided, for children orily,' and adults could bring baskets. The above was carried by resolution, district school children to be invited and made welcome.

Mrs. Webb considered that as the station platform of the station would not hold many people it would he better to utilise the showground. This view was favoured in general principles but found to be impracticable, because the Piiince would not be leaving the platf6im. Also, the showgrounds were at present littered with building materials. Messrs Perkins and Roberts were appointed as g.'ound committee to attend to the children in respect to duties outside those performed '3y the teachers.

Messis. Armstrong and Webste: were appointed as catering commit tee.

Formations—Councillors, the school children, teachers, patriotic workers, war veterans, returned soldiers and cadets were explained by Lieutenant Hatt and by M. Flavell (headmaster) Mr. R. F. Webster remarked that there would be very little of a police fo;ce available and that traffic stewards would be necessary on the roads arid approaches. Mr. F. Brown (Pukekohe stationmaster) said his instructions were to co-opewate with the local body in

decorating the station. The Rev Olphert emphasised that proper arrangements would have to be made for distributing refreshments on the grounds afterwards, and detailed arrangements that had

acted well elsewhere. Mr. Armstrong, Dr. Campbell Smith and Mr. F. Brown were ap pointed to arrange for a footbal match.

Provision was made for the Con vent children to participate.

LATER DECISIONS

Further decisions, made subsequent to the above reported meeting, are announced. Conditions in regard to the school children are advertised, and should be read carefully. The sports for the children are on a good scale, and the prizes substantial. For example, a handsome gold medal will be awarded for l the district championship runner competitors being eligible from Standards 111., IV„ V. and VI. This event is open to all the schools in the district to compete and is not confined to Pukekohe only. War veterans and returned soldiers are officially requested to attend at the railway station on Tuesday morning in mufti and wearing badges. The train will arrive in the morning, but the exact time is. not yet known. We would, however, strongly advise the public to assemble at the station by 10 a.m., as we are of the opinion tfiat there will be "something doing" at various intervals between 10 and 11. This "tip" is on our own account, and not based on any officially confirmed informations as to the times of arrival of the vice-regal and the royal trains, respectively, en route for Rotorua.
