BALL AT PUNI

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION.

(Staff Representative.)

The annual plain, fancy dress and ! masquerade ball held at Puni last night was a highly succes.-t'ul I'uiution. The uttendaiice was probably a record, there being people present from Pukekohe and the district places for miles around. Though the fancy dresses were not numerous, they were very well sot up, and the non-fancy apparel made a dainty and attractive display. No small meed of praise i* due to the ladies' committee for the outstanding success of the function. They were as follows: Mesdames Burgess, Gibson, Mansfield, Adams, Dazeley and Miss Lucas. Mrs Black, as secreta v, necessarily bore a goodly share of the burden of organisation, which duties she carried out with cheerful efficiency.

The prizes for the fancy clresses were awarded as follows: Ist Ladies'—Miss Short, of Aka /'ka, us "Ruination;" 2nd—Miss Ivy Adams, of Pukekohe, as "Champion Flour." Most original, ladies -Mrs. Halcombe. of Auckland, as "Motor Mechanic."

Ist Gents'—Mr. J. Weston, of Pukekohe (poster) as "Lily White Flour." 2nd —Mr. Norman Lucas, of ti*, as "Pierrot." Most original, gents'—Mr. Clary Dazeley, as "School Girl."

The findings of the judges were warmly applauded. Music was supplied by Miss Watson, of Pukekohe (piano). Messrs Ted Lucas and Archie Irvin capably officiated as M.C's. The hall was profusely decorated with nikau palms, lilies, and other greenery, thanks to the men's committee.

An excellent supper was handed round both quality and quantity being something worth while. And everyone was attended to in the true spirit of hospitality. The ladies' committee, who dispensed the supper, left nothing to be desired. The floor was, as usual, in splendid order. The hall committee wisely keep the floor for dancing purposes, and it is undoubtedly the best in the district. If the hall were extended from its present frontage to I lie fence line, it would be rushed by dancers for many miles around.

In every respect the function was a credit to the promoters and the district generally, and everyone enjoyed themselves immensely.

The following is the list of fancy dresses, "School Girl"' being the best, probably, both for get-up and t.h;> merriment afforded throughout the evening: Mesdames Dazeley (night), Wilson (Persian lady), Misses Adams (Champion Flour), Young (Gipsv')Abbott (poppy), Shoit (ruination), Hewitt (fancy dancer); Messrs N. Lucas (pierrot), G. Lucas (pierrot), J. Weston (Lily White Flour), A. Irwi/i (Sylvia Starch), Banks (clown). Sutton (cowboy).
