ALFRISTON BROOKBY ROYAL SNAIL.
We in Alfriston were getting aldfasiiioned, *'■» 4 And hopelessly out of date, So our mail-man, he bought him a motor, A notorious contrivance of late. Now things began to look pleasant, Our mail arrived up to time, And the motor, like doctor's last patient, Was reported as "Getting on fine." Thus life was running quite smoothly. We'd almost forgotten our woes, When, Alas! Lack-a-day! that same motor, Began for to turn up its toes. With break-downs or blow-ups of some sort, On an average of one day in two, Till the air round Alfriston-Brookby, Filled with fumes of a bright scarlet hue. The mail was set down as arriving, At some time to ten by the clock, So the people who wanted their papers, To the Post Office early would flock. Alas! for the lads and the lasses, Who for fond epistles are waiting, And others of female persuasion, All the latest gossip relating. The motor whose repute we upheld, Reposes in Kimber's Garage, Or between Manurewa and Alfriston, Where the rabbits gambol at large. If Mr Mail-man would take our advicd. He'd avoid the mechanical lure, And invest in a team of good oxen, Then he'd get here some time tor sure, —ACUTE SUFFERER.
