BRIDGES AND LEVELS. The following letter was received from Mr. W. H. C. Glasson at the Franklin County Council meeting yesterday:— <v > At a public meeting held in Druiv last evening (March 9th) to consider the question of approaches to the overhead bridge, also the grading of the road leading to station, the enclosed resolutio» were cacried unanimously. I trust that both matters will receive your careful and immediate consideration. Resolution No. I—That this meet-
ing of Drury residents and ratepayers are of opinion that toe approaches to the overhead bridge recently constructed by the Railway Department near this township are altcge-
ther too steep, and a menace to public safety, and that the County Council be respectfully requested to have the difficulty remedied without delay- •*- Resolution No. 2-1-That in reference to formation of road leading to the railway station, this meeting is of opinion that the be raised at least three feetirffcr-' de// to assure a satisfactory grade* To the above, the clerk of th* | council replied as follows: Your letter to hand relative to overhead bridge approaches at Dtuiy. Whilst at Drury on Monday last, I pointed out to one of the assistant railway engineers that the grades were not as submitted to the council, and was given to understur/d that fresh levels would be taken and „ w the approaches constructed to a. one* in twenty grade. I am directed by the county chairman to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 10th inst. enclosing a copy of two resolutions passed it a public meeting of Drury residents regarding the grades of road approaches to the overhead bridge at Drury at present being consisted by the Railway Department, re the grades of the access road to east side of Drury station at present being constructed by the. coup- • til. The county chairman directs me to advise that your letter will be submitted to'the consideration of the council at next meeting. In the meantime the chairman has conferred with the county engineer on the matters referred to in the resolutions, and the county engineer reports that he has arranged to inspect the road approaches to overhead bridge at Drury along with the Railway Department's engineer at un early date, and will report regarding same to the next council meet in?. With reference to the grades on the access road, 1 am instructed to advise that the grade of finished road is to be one in twenty. Cv. Thomas said that the wok had not been completed yet, and he contended that the Drury ratepayers should wait until the work was completed before complaining. The worn was going on satisfactorily. On the motion of Cr. Lockwood the reply forwarded was approved.
