BREAKING AND ENTERING
IMIKLKOHt PttERISSFS RANSACKED COUNTY COUNCIL AND "TIMKS" OFFICKS. NOTHING STOLEN. Last night the offices of tho Franklin County Council and also that of "The Franklin and Pukekohe Times" were illegally entered, a window of the foi nier being prised open, seemingly with a jemmy, and the front door of the "Times" office beinj; treated similarly. Beyond the Fire.iking open of table drawers no danij age was done, and nothing appears to he missing. Both offices were ransacked, but evidently the thieves were not equipped with appliances for forcing the strong room and safes. Judging by their handiwork, the marauders were of a variety. The police have the matter under investigation, and a detective was brought down from Auckland this morning. (Suspicious characters had been noted in the town recently, seemingly taking stock of the place, and this was the reason why we published a leading article in our last itsue, warning people to be careful of their valuables, and urging precautionary measures, such as the employment of a nightwatchman.)
